Birmingham Perl Mongers are a user group for Perl programmers based in and around the second city of the United Kingdom. We provide help and advice to Perl programmers from Birmingham, the Black Country and the West Midlands.
Online, you can join our mailing list. In the real world, we meet for social meetings for beer, chit-chat and a good game of Fluxx. We also now hold monthly technical meetings. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced in Perl, everyone is welcome to come along and join us. All meetings are always open to everyone and have free entry.
Birmingham Perl Mongers Limited (hereafter referred to as "Birmingham Perl Mongers" or "The Company") is a legal entity with the aim of supporting the Perl community and providing opportunities to educate the public and to further Perl developments. As a Company limited by Guarantee, Birmingham Perl Mongers relies on its Directors and its Membership to safeguard and fulfil its aims.
Membership applications may be applied for by contacting The Company at the registered address, or by asking an official member for the appropriate form at any Birmingham Perl Mongers meeting. Membership is subject to approval by The Company, and successful applicants agreeing to the Terms And Conditions expressed within this document ("Terms and Conditions of Membership").
These Terms and Conditions of Membership ("Terms") govern the membership of the Birmingham Perl Mongers ("Membership"). It is requested that you please read them carefully, as your Membership is expressly conditioned on your compliance with these Terms. Note that any violation of these Terms may result in termination of your Membership.
Birmingham Perl Mongers reserves the right to change these Terms from time to time. Please refer to this site periodically for any changes. By continuing your Membership after Birmingham Perl Mongers makes any such changes, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.
There is no obligation to become a member of Birmingham Perl Mongers. Membership is voluntary and an active membership will help Birmingham Perl Mongers further its aims. By becoming a member you agree to the following terms:
During their Membership, Members have ...
Members of Birmingham Perl Mongers have the right to vote and be involved in decisions that effect the running of Birmingham Perl Mongers. They may vote and stand in elections, which are to be held at least once a year, and will be officially recognised as members of Birmingham Perl Mongers.
Members of Birmingham Perl Mongers have a liability to the sum of £1 (one pound) for any debts, should The Company ever be dissolved with debts owing. This liability stands for up to one year after Membership has lapsed or been terminated.
An annual fee of £25 (twenty-five pounds) for waged members and £10 (ten pounds) for unwaged members is requested, together with a completed and signed membership form. The fee covers membership for one whole year, from the date of transfer of payment to the account of Birmingham Perl Mongers.
This fee will be returned to the applicant, if the application for membership should be refused for any reason.
Membership may be terminated by the member in writing at any time. However, no refund of membership fee or part thereof, will be paid to the member. Membership is terminated automatically upon non-payment of any renewal fee, at the time of the annual renewal date of the member.
Please note that the Articles And Memorandum of The Company give the directors discretion to approve Membership. Equally, the directors are also able to terminate Membership at their discretion, in the interests of The Company. Details of the appeals process is available on request.
Your application for Membership of Birmingham Perl Mongers, requires such personal information, including your name, email address, and mailing address, that may be considered confidential. We protect and use this information only as is required of us by law.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 "subject access" is an individuals right to gain access to data (if any) held about themselves by a data controller (i.e. Birmingham Perl Mongers). If you require information held by Birmingham Perl Mongers for an individual, that individual may apply in writing for a copy of the Membership Form that is stored by Birmingham Perl Mongers. No personal bank or credit card details are held by Birmingham Perl Mongers for any member of the group.
We may assign our rights and responsibilities hereunder without notice to you.
If there is any conflict between these Terms and specific terms appearing elsewhere on the Birmingham Perl Mongers web site, then the latter shall prevail.
If any part of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable by reason of the laws of any state or country in which these terms are intended to be effective, then the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision most closely matching the intent of the original provision and the remainder of the Terms will remain in full force and effect and continue to be binding and enforceable.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and The Company with respect to Membership of Birmingham Perl Mongers, and supersede all other communications, written or oral, with regard to Membership. The failure of Birmingham Perl Mongers to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be deemed a waiver of such right or provision.
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
